Delta Increases Melbourne to LAX Flights to Daily Service

by

Delta Air Lines will expand its service between Melbourne, Australia, and Los Angeles to daily flights during the peak summer travel period of late 2026 and early 2027, responding to increased passenger demand on the transpacific route. The airline initially launched the route in December 2025 with three weekly flights.

The expansion will be phased in, beginning October 13, 2026, when service will increase to four flights per week. By October 27, 2026, Delta will operate five flights weekly. Daily service is scheduled to commence December 22, 2026, and continue through March 2027, according to a statement from the airline.

The increased frequency applies to both departing flights, DL012 from Melbourne to Los Angeles, and DL011 from Los Angeles to Melbourne. The airline launched the Melbourne-LAX route in late 2022, marking its return to the Australian market after a period of absence.

Delta intends to utilize its Airbus A350-900 aircraft for the route, which features a configuration of 275 seats, including 40 in business class, 40 in premium economy, 36 with extra legroom, and 159 in the main economy cabin. The Melbourne to Los Angeles flight is a 7,921-mile journey.

Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta, stated upon the route’s initial launch that the service “reflects our commitment to connecting customers with the world’s most exciting destinations.”

The airline has not announced any changes to the aircraft type or cabin configuration to accommodate the expanded schedule. The seasonal frequency increases are expected to provide additional capacity for both leisure and corporate travelers during the peak northern winter holiday period.
