A 23-year-old woman in India has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband with the assistance of her lover, staging the scene to resemble a hit-and-run accident. The incident, which occurred in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, took place just three months after the couple’s marriage, according to reports.
The victim, identified as Ashish, 27, was walking with his wife, Anjali, when the attack occurred. Authorities allege Anjali intentionally led her husband down a secluded path, setting the stage for a calculated ambush. The motive appears to stem from a long-term affair Anjali was reportedly having with another individual.
Details of the Planned Attack
According to police investigations, Anjali’s alleged lover, identified as Sanju, along with three associates – Rocky, Badal, and Siddharth – lay in wait. They attacked Ashish, initially striking him with sticks before ultimately strangling him with a muffler. Following the attack, the group fled the scene, leaving Anjali to report the incident as a hit-and-run.
Anjali initially told police she and her husband were struck by a vehicle, and that her gold jewelry had been stolen during the incident. However, investigators quickly became suspicious, noting inconsistencies between her account and the nature of Ashish’s injuries. A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed that Ashish died as a result of strangulation, contradicting the initial hit-and-run claim.
Long-Standing Relationship Revealed
The investigation uncovered that Anjali had been in a seven-year relationship with Sanju, a wedding waiter, even before her marriage to Ashish. The two reportedly met while attending the same college. Police believe Anjali’s family was aware of the relationship and arranged her marriage to Ashish, who resided approximately 225 kilometers away from Sri Ganganagar, in an attempt to separate the couple. NDTV reported on the details of the investigation.
Prior to the murder, Anjali reportedly attempted to relocate to Sri Ganganagar under the guise of pursuing further education, but Ashish opposed the move. Phone records confirmed frequent communication between Anjali and Sanju, providing evidence of their ongoing relationship and collaboration in planning the murder.
Custody and Ongoing Investigation
Sanju and his three accomplices were taken into custody shortly after the incident. Anjali was also arrested and is currently in police custody. The families of both Ashish and Anjali are reportedly devastated by the tragedy. Relatives of Ashish have expressed shock and anger over what they describe as a betrayal.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the murder and to gather additional evidence. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the complexities of relationships and the potential for tragic outcomes.
As the investigation progresses, authorities will likely focus on establishing a clear timeline of events and gathering further evidence to support the charges against those involved. The case is expected to proceed through the Indian legal system, with potential for a lengthy trial and sentencing.
