Trae Young, Anthony Davis Injury Updates: Wizards Return Timelines

by Luis Mendoza - Sport Editor

Washington Wizards fans are cautiously optimistic as they await the debuts of two high-profile acquisitions, Trae Young and Anthony Davis. Whereas Young is showing encouraging signs in his recovery, Davis remains further from returning to the court. The team provided updates on both players Thursday, outlining their respective progress and timelines for reevaluation.

The Wizards, who acquired Young in a trade with Atlanta in January and Davis from Dallas earlier this month, are banking on the All-Star duo to revitalize a struggling franchise. Combined, Young and Davis boast 14 All-Star selections, representing a significant influx of talent for a team currently holding the worst record in the NBA at 14-39, as of February 20, 2026 according to Yahoo Sports.

Young, 27, is “ramping up” basketball activities as he recovers from a right knee MCL sprain and a right quadriceps contusion. He last played on December 27th while with the Hawks. Wizards General Manager Will Dawkins recently noted that Young had already begun practicing in limited settings, including one-on-none and two-on-two drills as reported by ESPN. He will be reevaluated next week to assess his progress.

Davis’ Recovery Continues

Davis, 32, is further behind in his rehabilitation. He’s been working to recover from ligament damage in his left hand, sustained while playing for the Dallas Mavericks on January 8th. Following rehab in Dallas, he consulted with hand specialist Steven Shin in Los Angeles before joining the Wizards. The team announced he will be reevaluated in two weeks, and is currently not cleared for basketball activities according to The Athletic.

Wizards coach Brian Keefe emphasized a patient approach to both players’ returns. “You just follow the process,” Keefe said. “That’s what we always do.”

What’s Next for the Wizards?

The Wizards face an uphill battle as they attempt to integrate two injured stars into a team already struggling this season. While the front office may be focused on long-term development and potentially securing a higher draft pick, the potential impact of a healthy Young and Davis is undeniable. The team’s immediate focus remains on following the prescribed rehabilitation plans for both players.

Fans will be closely watching for updates following Young’s reevaluation next week and Davis’s in two weeks. The Wizards are back in action Thursday against the Indiana Pacers Yahoo Sports reports, but neither All-Star is expected to participate.
