Chengalpattu Voter Count: 22.6 Lakh Voters, Gender Breakdown & Constituency Details

Chennai – Tamil Nadu’s State Integrated Residential (SIR) electoral roll has been finalized, revealing a total of 5.67 crore registered voters, following the deletion of nearly 70 lakh electors. This update, crucial for upcoming elections, reflects ongoing efforts to maintain an accurate and current voter list across the state. The finalized roll underscores the importance of voter participation in India’s largest democracy.

The process involved additions and removals to ensure the integrity of the voter database. According to officials, the deletions were primarily due to factors such as voters having moved residences, deaths, and duplicate entries. The updated list aims to provide a more reliable foundation for fair and transparent elections.

Chengalpattu district, a rapidly growing region south of Chennai, has a total of 22,60,036 voters, according to District Collector D. Sneha on Monday. This figure breaks down to 11,04,512 men, 11,55,144 women, and 381 individuals identifying as third gender. Since the publication of the draft electoral roll two months ago, 1,90,010 names have been added, and 15,465 have been removed, reflecting the dynamic population within the district.

A detailed constituency-wise breakdown of voter numbers in Chengalpattu district reveals the following:

  • Sholinganallur: 5,36,991 total voters (2,62,621 men, 2,74,254 women, 116 third gender)
  • Pallavaram: 3,30,217 total voters (1,61,197 men, 1,68,990 women, 24 others)

  • Maduranthakam: 2,11,295 voters (1,03,943 men, 1,07,288 women, 64 third gender)

The meticulous process of updating the electoral roll is a continuous undertaking, ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. The Election Commission of India (https://eci.gov.in/) regularly conducts these revisions to maintain the accuracy of voter lists.

This latest update comes as Tamil Nadu prepares for potential elections, and the finalized voter list will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth and democratic process. The focus now shifts to voter awareness campaigns and ensuring that all eligible citizens are aware of their registration status and polling locations.

Looking ahead, election officials will continue to monitor and update the voter lists, addressing any discrepancies or changes in voter demographics. The ongoing commitment to maintaining an accurate electoral roll is vital for upholding the integrity of the electoral process in Tamil Nadu and across India.
