Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Candidates for this position must have completed an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold current licensure as a PA, or have completed an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and be currently licensed as an APRN. Preferred candidates will possess a minimum of two years of experience in family medicine as a PA or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). The APP will operate under the supervision of a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC, reporting directly to them.
Core job duties include taking comprehensive patient histories, performing physical examinations, evaluating and treating patients based on diagnostic results, initiating referrals to specialists, and documenting patient care. The role also emphasizes utilizing current research and evidence-based decision-making, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and supporting the organization’s accreditation and compliance efforts. Opportunities may also exist to precept students from MUSC’s advanced practice provider programs and mentor new team members.
All applicants are required to maintain current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), as well as valid licenses from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The position is a salaried, exempt role with a 40-hour work week, typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
