US Submarine Sinks Iranian Warship: Pentagon Footage Released

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

The Pentagon released video footage today confirming the sinking of an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean following a strike by a U.S. Submarine. The incident, which occurred off the coast of Sri Lanka, has resulted in the confirmed recovery of 87 bodies, with 67 sailors remaining missing, according to Sri Lankan police and defence officials.

The Iranian vessel, identified as the IRIS Dena, initially issued a distress call picked up by the Sri Lankan Navy. The U.S. Military confirmed the engagement, releasing a video showing a torpedo launched from a submarine impacting the warship. The Pentagon has not yet disclosed the specific circumstances leading to the attack, nor the location of the U.S. Submarine involved.

The sinking of the IRIS Dena marks a significant escalation in tensions in the region. Concurrent with the naval engagement, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting several countries, though specific targets and the extent of damage remain unclear. These attacks are occurring against a backdrop of ongoing strikes by Israel and the United States against targets within Iran, further complicating the geopolitical landscape.

The incident is also prompting a flow of Iranian citizens across the border into eastern Turkey, raising concerns about regional stability. Reports indicate a potential for Kurdish forces to initiate an insurgency aimed at destabilizing the Iranian government, though the likelihood and scope of such an operation remain uncertain.

The Pentagon has so far offered no comment on the potential for further military action, and has not responded to requests for information regarding the rules of engagement governing the U.S. Submarine’s actions. The Iranian government has yet to issue a comprehensive statement regarding the sinking of the IRIS Dena, or the broader series of attacks and counter-attacks unfolding across the region.
