The Financial Times launched a free weekly newsletter for its finance blog, FT Alphaville, on Substack on Friday, November 18, 2025. The newsletter, delivered at lunchtime in the UK, will focus on developments in markets and finance, offering commentary, data visualization, research previews, and striking charts. The move represents the FT’s first venture onto the Substack platform, and is specifically aimed at reaching and engaging younger readers, according to Sarah Ebner, director of editorial growth and engagement at the Financial Times. Research indicated strong resonance of FT Alphaville with this demographic, prompting the expansion to a platform where they are already active. FT Alphaville, known for its often “wonky” and unique perspective on financial matters, already offers free content on FT.com. The Substack newsletter is intended to complement this existing offering, providing another avenue for readers to discover and engage with the team’s journalism. The newsletter will be written by Bryce Elder and the Alphaville team, and will cover topics deemed worth questioning, analyzing, or finding humorous within the world of finance. Alphaville editor Robin Wigglesworth described the intended audience as “smart, open-minded readers who are curious about markets, economics, and the geeky mechanics of finance, even if they don’t work in those fields.” The launch follows a trend of increased newsletter offerings from the Financial Times, including options for subscribers covering White House news, the week ahead, AI shifts, and UK politics. The FT similarly offers newsletters focused on asset management and personal finance. The FT Schools Digest is available free to students and teachers. As of November 19, 2025, the FT Alphaville newsletter is available for free on Substack.
