TelevisaUnivision & Apple Partner for Spanish-Language F1 Coverage in US

by Luis Mendoza - Sport Editor

Formula 1 racing is set to reach a wider Spanish-speaking audience in the United States thanks to a new partnership between TelevisaUnivision and Apple. The collaboration will bring dedicated Spanish-language coverage of the high-octane motorsport to fans, leveraging Apple TV’s exclusive broadcast rights and TelevisaUnivision’s extensive reach within the Hispanic community.

Under the agreement, Univision, TelevisaUnivision’s US-based network, will simulcast one Formula 1 race this season, accompanied by dedicated pre- and post-race programming specifically tailored for Spanish-speaking viewers. While the specific race to be broadcast is yet to be announced, the partnership signals a significant expansion of F1’s accessibility within a key demographic. TelevisaUnivision will too promote Apple TV’s overall F1 coverage across its platforms, including highlights on Univision and TUDN.

The timing of this partnership coincides with growing interest in Formula 1 within the US and particularly among Hispanic fans. “Formula 1 is one of the fastest growing sports in the US, and as the sport’s official broadcast partner in Mexico, we’ve seen firsthand how deeply Hispanic fans connect with it,” said Marco Liceaga, senior vice president of sports rights acquisitions and commercial partnerships at TelevisaUnivision. “We’re excited to perform with Apple in expanding our coverage of the sport.”

Apple’s Exclusive Rights and Expanded Streaming

Apple secured exclusive Formula 1 rights in the US beginning with the 2026 season, a deal reportedly worth around $140 million per year, extending through the end of the 2030 campaign according to Google News. Apple is further expanding its F1 footprint through a new agreement with Netflix.

As part of this collaboration, Netflix will simulcast the Canadian Grand Prix in the US on May 24, offering live coverage of the entire race weekend – including practice, qualifying, and the race itself. In return, Apple will simulcast the eighth season of Netflix’s popular docuseries, Drive to Survive, which chronicles the 2025 F1 season, on its Apple TV+ streaming service.

Expanding TelevisaUnivision’s Sports Portfolio

This partnership with Apple strengthens TelevisaUnivision’s already robust portfolio of Spanish-language sports rights. The broadcaster currently holds the rights to major properties including Liga MX and Liga MX Femenil (Mexican soccer), Leagues Cup, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, Mexican national team competitions, and Major League Baseball. The addition of Formula 1 further diversifies its offerings and caters to the growing demand for motorsports within the Hispanic market.

Interest in the upcoming season is also expected to be fueled by Sergio Perez, the sole Mexican driver on the F1 grid, who will compete for the new Cadillac team. TelevisaUnivision’s parent company, Grupo Televisa, already holds the broadcast rights to F1 in Mexico through 2028, a deal announced last October.

The 2026 Formula 1 season, comprised of 24 rounds, is scheduled to begin with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8th and conclude in Abu Dhabi in early December. This expanded coverage, facilitated by the partnership between TelevisaUnivision and Apple, promises to bring the excitement of Formula 1 to a broader audience than ever before.

As Apple and TelevisaUnivision prepare for the 2026 season, the focus will be on maximizing the reach of F1 content to Spanish-speaking fans. The success of this partnership will likely influence future strategies for broadcasting and streaming motorsports, potentially setting a new standard for accessibility and engagement within the industry.
