Junín Kickboxing Festival: “Pioneros XXII” Draws Large Crowd & Signals Growth

Junín, Argentina – A vibrant atmosphere filled the “Beto Mesa” sports center Friday night as the Northwest League and the Federal Institute of Martial Arts (IFAM) hosted “Pioneros XXII,” a kickboxing event signaling a strong recovery for the sport following pandemic-related disruptions. The event drew a large crowd, demonstrating growing local interest in kickboxing and the dedication of organizers to revitalize the discipline.

The evening featured 46 fights, bringing together competitors from across Buenos Aires and beyond. Organizers highlighted the event as a testament to the resilience of the kickboxing community and a platform for both seasoned athletes and newcomers. The success of “Pioneros XXII” underscores a broader trend of renewed activity in combat sports as restrictions ease and communities reconnect.

Master Gustavo Bruno, head of IFAM Junín and attorney general for the Northwest League, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s development. “We are happy with the development of this modern kickboxing evening here in the complex,” Bruno stated. “A great job had to be done to organize the 46 fights that took place on this occasion with competitors who came from all over and a closing with high quality fights.” He emphasized the challenges overcome to rebuild participation levels after the pandemic, noting a surge in new athletes joining the sport.

Bruno explained that the league is actively working to expand opportunities for athletes and strengthen the foundations of kickboxing in the region. “Little by little we are resuming the development of this discipline, we already have essential plans and we want to thank the Sports Directorate for the support they always give us,” he said. He also noted the strong community support, stating, “I am not surprised by the large crowd that came to Beto Mesa to enjoy this event. Last time we also had an even larger turnout and that is extremely important for kickboxing.”

The Northwest League, under Bruno’s leadership, has a long-standing commitment to developing athletes, referees, and judges within the region. Bruno, who has been involved in the sport for over 30 years, highlighted the league’s success in training individuals who have participated in major events throughout Argentina. He attributed this success to a collaborative spirit within the Junín kickboxing community.

The event also received strong support from the local government. Diego Hortiguera, Sports Director of the Municipality of Junín, expressed his enthusiasm for the event and the municipality’s commitment to supporting local sports initiatives. “We are very happy to be able to accompany Gustavo and his entire work team in the organization of these kickboxing festivals,” Hortiguera said. “For us, It’s very important to support and promote this type of sports in Junín that attract many competitors from different parts of Buenos Aires and the country.”

Rubén Lorio, coordinator of the Sports Directorate, echoed Hortiguera’s sentiments, praising Bruno’s dedication and the positive impact of the event on the local sports scene. “I am very happy to be able to participate in these events with the Sports Directorate and it fills me with satisfaction to see the professional growth of Gustavo, someone whom I have known for a long time and I grasp of all the effort he makes for the development of this discipline,” Lorio commented. “The idea is to always be present for whatever they need and support sports in Junín as always.”

The success of “Pioneros XXII” signals a positive trajectory for kickboxing in Junín and the surrounding areas. With continued support from local organizations and the dedication of individuals like Master Bruno, the sport is poised for further growth and development. The Northwest League is planning future events and initiatives to build on this momentum and provide opportunities for athletes at all levels.

The organizers are now focused on building upon the success of this event, with plans for future competitions and training programs. The continued collaboration between the Northwest League, IFAM, and the Sports Directorate of Junín will be crucial in sustaining this positive trend and fostering a thriving kickboxing community.
