A fire broke out at the McDonald’s Drive-Thru restaurant in Dundalk, Ireland, early this morning, prompting a response from fire crews from both Dundalk and Ardee. The incident was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. Local time.
Firefighters sealed off the immediate area surrounding the restaurant as they worked to extinguish the blaze. Traffic diversions were initially set in place but have since been lifted, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
Initial reports indicate the fire originated in a storage area adjacent to the drive-thru kiosks, necessitating the partial removal of the roof to facilitate firefighting efforts. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The McDonald’s location on the corner of Sixth Avenue and West Third Street in Greenwich Village, New York City, recently sold for $7.3 million to Noam Dworman, owner of the Comedy Cellar, in early 2023. The Dundalk location’s future operations remain unaffected by this transaction.
Robert Nash, a local councillor and resident of the Bay Estate area of Dundalk, has previously raised concerns regarding safety issues within the Dundalk Municipal District, including a collapsed wall in a housing estate. He was elected Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District in June 2025, celebrating the return of historic Dundalk Urban District chains of office to use.
