Emilie “Voe” Nereng’s Million-Dollar Turnaround: From Blogger to Investor

Emilie “Voe” Nereng’s career has seen a remarkable resurgence since her return to public life in 2019, following a period where she stepped away from her influential blog – one of Norway’s first and most-read – which she initially launched in 2009. After earning a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Høyskolen Kristiania during her time away from the spotlight, Nereng quickly established herself as a leading voice in the wellness space, particularly through her Instagram account, “emilienutrition.” Now, the Hønefoss native is not only thriving as a nutrition expert, food influencer, and entrepreneur, but is also making savvy financial moves.

Nereng’s financial success has been substantial in recent years. According to tax records, she earned a million-kroner income in the first two years after her comeback, and has since seen continued growth through her alcohol-free beverage, Vibe by Voe, as well as appearances on various TV and reality shows. Her business ventures have clearly paid off, and she’s now strategically planning for the future through investment.

Financial reports indicate Nereng’s sales revenue reached approximately 2.2 million kroner in 2020, climbing to around 3.3 million kroner in 2023, according to Finansavisen. Her participation in last year’s reality demonstrate, “Helt ramme sporter,” where she famously completed a wine marathon, proved to be a significant catalyst for her career. “Economically, ‘Helt Ramme sporter’ has had a huge impact on me,” Nereng told Finansavisen in June of last year. “There has been a tremendous increase in interest in me within TV, I have received many casting requests, and my follower numbers on Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok have also increased massively. It’s heading towards a record year for me financially in 2025.”

Nereng has been channeling her earnings into significant purchases – including a flat, a cabin, and a lavish wedding in Croatia – but recently, she’s also focused on long-term investment through funds.

Inspired by Her Husband to Invest

Initially hesitant about investing, Nereng admitted to Nettavisen that she found the idea “scary,” preferring the perceived safety of a traditional bank account. However, her husband, Michael Hansson, a financial professional, encouraged her to put her money to work. “I’m with a financial economist who doesn’t understand why I’m doing this and thinks the money should be working,” she explained.

After 2022, Nereng began allocating funds for investment, starting with 500,000 kroner in March of last year. This initial investment saw a 24% increase, prompting her to add another 1 million kroner in December and a further 500,000 kroner in January. In total, she has now invested around 2 million kroner in funds.

As of the time of the Nettavisen interview, her returns were around 130,000 kroner. Hansson clarified that the majority of these gains stemmed from the initial 500,000 kroner investment, as later contributions were made more recently.

Making Investing Accessible

Nereng previously found the process of investing in funds to be complicated, but now believes it’s simpler than many people think. “It’s not trading. The money just sits there in a fund. It’s actually a very efficient way to save money without doing much,” she said. She’s also been openly sharing her financial journey and investment strategies on social media, aiming to lower the barrier to entry for others.

“I think You’ll see quite a few people out there who think Here’s something they should have done many years ago, or something you can only do when you have a lot of money. But it’s actually not something to wait for,” Nereng stated.

She also noted that discussing finances has sparked her interest in economics. “You see how the world is connected when you follow funds a bit. Statements from Trump or other news affect the economy. It’s interesting to see how everything is connected.”

Nereng currently has no plans to withdraw her investments, stating, “That money is just going to enjoy itself there for at least 50 more years.”
