Johannesburg, South Africa – The South African National Lottery held its PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws Friday evening, with jackpots totaling R135 million. The PowerBall jackpot stood at an estimated R93 million, while PowerBall Plus offered R42 million, according to results released by lottery officials.
The winning numbers for the PowerBall draw were 01, 03, 27, 45, 50, with the PowerBall number being 17. For PowerBall Plus, the winning numbers were 09, 14, 23, 34, 36, and the PowerBall number was 20.
A total of 295,333 players won in the PowerBall draw, while 265,871 players secured wins in the PowerBall Plus draw. The next PowerBall jackpot is estimated at R100 million, and the next PowerBall Plus jackpot is expected to reach R45 million.
The draws took place on e.tv (channel 194) at 21:00 (SA time), as they do every Tuesday, and Friday. Players participate in the PowerBall draw by selecting five main numbers from 1 to 50 and a single PowerBall number from 1 to 20 for an entry fee of R5.00 per board. PowerBall Plus offers a second chance to win, requiring an additional R2.50 per board when purchasing a PowerBall ticket.
The National Lottery of South Africa introduced PowerBall Plus on November 28, 2015. The largest lottery prize in South African history was awarded in the PowerBall, with a winner receiving R232,131,750.69 on February 19, 2019.
Tickets can be purchased at participating retailers nationwide, online at national-lottery.co.za, through the National Lottery Mobile App, or via participating banks including FNB, ABSA, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Capitec, TymeBank and African Bank. USSD access is also available by dialing 1207529#.
Winners of R50,000 or more are eligible for free trauma counseling from professional psychologists and financial advice from accredited financial advisors, provided by the National Lottery. Winnings are paid tax-free directly into the winner’s account.
Lottery ticket sales close at 20:30 on the day of the draw for purchases made at retail outlets. Players must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
