Wendi McLendon-Covey: Why She Missed the ‘Bridesmaids’ Oscars Reunion

The 2026 Oscars saw a heartwarming reunion of the cast of “Bridesmaids,” but one familiar face was noticeably absent: Wendi McLendon-Covey. While Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, and Ellie Kemper took the stage to present awards, McLendon-Covey revealed the reason for her absence – a recent medical procedure. The beloved comedic actress shared on Instagram that she underwent a neck lift last week and is currently recovering.

The “Bridesmaids” cast’s appearance at the 98th Academy Awards celebrated the 15th anniversary of Paul Feig’s hit 2011 film. The quintet presented the awards for Best Score, which went to Ludwig Goransson for “Sinners,” and Best Sound, awarded to “F1.” Their time onstage included a playful bit referencing the film’s age, joking that it was shot in 1883, and humorous interactions with actors in the audience like Stellan Skarsgård and Benecio del Toro.

McLendon-Covey addressed the questions about her absence directly on her Instagram account, writing, “In response to some of the dms I’m getting: I had a neck lift last week given that I’m tired of looking like a melting candle.” She added, “So I had to skip the Academy Awards. No drama. Everything is fine. 😘”

The Oscars ceremony also saw Barbra Streisand deliver a moving tribute to her late co-star Robert Redford, performing “The Way We Were” and sharing a personal anecdote about the actor, as reported by AOL. Meanwhile, Rose Byrne was a nominee herself, vying for Best Actress for her role in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” but ultimately lost to Jessie Buckley, who won for her portrayal of Agnes in “Hamnet.”

The 2025 Disney FYC Fest at the DGA, which concluded shortly before the Oscars, also featured perform from Frank Micelotta, as noted on Instagram. Micelotta’s work was highlighted in connection with the Disney Television team and Shannon Warner Events.

McLendon-Covey’s decision to prioritize her recovery underscores the importance of self-care, even amidst high-profile events. While fans may have missed seeing her alongside her “Bridesmaids” co-stars, her transparency about her procedure and focus on healing has been met with support.

As McLendon-Covey continues her recovery, fans anticipate her return to future projects. The enduring popularity of “Bridesmaids” and the cast’s continued camaraderie suggest further opportunities for reunions and collaborations down the line.
