Classes were canceled Monday for multiple school districts across the Fox Valley as Blizzard Elsa brought heavy snowfall and strong winds to the region. At least a foot of snow had fallen in the Appleton area by Sunday night, with continued accumulation and wind gusts up to 40 mph expected throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

The Appleton Area School District, along with Community 4K, Freedom Area School District, Kaukauna Area School District, Kimberly Area School District, Little Chute Area School District, and Menasha Joint School District all announced school closures. Neenah Joint School District shifted to a virtual learning day, while Shiocton School District implemented digital learning. All after-school and evening activities have been canceled across the affected districts.

The Freedom Area School District has rescheduled its school board meeting for 6:30 p.m. On March 23, officials said.

The storm, dubbed Elsa, is forecast to dump over two feet of snow in some areas, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph, making travel extremely hazardous, according to reports. Sleet is also falling across the Fox Valley, including in Green Bay, Appleton, and Kaukauna.

A blizzard warning remains in effect for the region until 4 p.m. Monday.
