BA A380 Refurbishment: New Cabin Details Revealed

British Airways inadvertently published a new seat map for its Airbus A380 aircraft refit, revealing what will be the world’s largest business class cabin when the planes return to service. The leak, first noticed by aviation enthusiasts, details a significant overhaul of the A380’s interior, increasing the total seat count to 421.

The redesigned A380 will feature a substantial expansion of the Club Suite business class cabin, accommodating 76 seats. This surpasses the current largest business class cabin found on any other aircraft. The seat map indicates a new 1-2-1 configuration for the business class section, offering direct aisle access for every passenger. Aviation A2Z first reported the seat map details.

Beyond the business class upgrade, the A380 refit includes a revised premium economy cabin with 56 seats, and a larger economy class section offering 289 seats. This represents a net increase in overall capacity compared to the A380’s original configuration. The changes are part of a broader fleet modernization effort by British Airways.

The airline is currently undertaking a multi-million pound investment to upgrade its A380 fleet, with the first refurbished aircraft expected to re-enter service in 2026. The A380s will operate on some of British Airways’ longest routes, including those to destinations in North America and Asia, according to Simple Flying. The airline plans to deploy the A380 on routes such as London to Los Angeles, London to Miami, and potentially to new destinations in Asia.

The accidental release of the seat map has generated considerable excitement within the aviation community. Executive Traveller reported on the initial details of the leak, sparking discussion about the implications for passenger experience and competition among airlines offering premium cabin products. Aerospace Global News also covered the seat map leak, highlighting the scale of the business class expansion.

British Airways has not yet officially commented on the leaked seat map, and the airline has not confirmed a specific timeline for the rollout of the refurbished A380s. The airline is scheduled to begin flying the A380 again in 2026, but has not announced which routes will be served by the upgraded aircraft.
