Pedro Sánchez & Begoña Gómez: Weekend Getaway to Baqueira After Political Tension

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his wife, Begoña Gómez, spent the weekend in Baqueira, a resort town in the Pyrenees region of Lleida, Spain, according to reports from 20minutos. The private trip followed a period of political tension for Sánchez, stemming from disagreements with coalition partners in Sumar over legislative responses to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

Seeking respite from the political discord, the couple engaged in cycling in the locality of Vilamòs, an activity Sánchez has previously showcased on social media. Their weekend as well included a dinner on Saturday evening at Casa Turnay, a highly-regarded restaurant in Escuñau, within the Valle de Arán.

Here’s not the first time the Sánchez-Gómez family has sought refuge in Baqueira. In November, they visited the area for hiking and cycling, staying at the Parador de Artíes, a hotel located near the Baqueira Beret ski resort, as reported by Okdiario and Mujer Hoy. The Parador de Artíes is known as a prominent example of architecture in the Aran Valley.

The political context surrounding the Prime Minister’s weekend break centers on a recent rift with Sumar regarding decrees intended to address the economic consequences of the war in Iran. 20minutos reported that this disagreement forced Sánchez to concede ground, potentially complicating his strategy to leverage the plan amidst the international crisis.
