POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist Red Foxes women’s water polo team extended their winning streak to nine games with a pair of victories at the Marist Invitational on Saturday, defeating Villanova 14-13 and Wagner 11-9.

Against Villanova, Jolanta Szentpali and Kendell De Beer each scored three goals to support propel Marist to a narrow victory. The Red Foxes took an early lead, establishing a 7-5 advantage in the first quarter. Both teams added two goals in the second, extending Marist’s lead to 9-7 at halftime. After the break, Marist continued to build momentum, outscoring Villanova 3-2 in the third quarter to lead 12-9. Villanova mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth, but Marist held on for the 14-13 win.

In their second match of the day, Marist faced Wagner. Kendell De Beer led the Red Foxes offense with four goals. Lela McCarroll and Samantha Bentley each contributed two goals to the effort. Marist controlled the early stages of the game, outscoring Wagner 2-1 in the first quarter and 4-2 in the second to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. The Red Foxes continued their strong performance after the break, adding two more goals while holding Wagner to just one, extending their lead to 8-4. Marist ultimately secured an 11-9 victory, holding off a late push from Wagner.

Marist’s record now stands at 21-4 on the season. The team will return to action on Wednesday evening, traveling to face Siena at 6:00 p.m. ET.
