a 65-year-old mountaineer falls and loses his life at the Dent Blanche

A 65-year-old German mountaineer died Thursday following a fall during his ascent of the Dent Blanche in Zinal.

The two roped climbers left the Schönbiel hut via the Quatre Anes ridge, the cantonal police said in a press release on Friday. At an altitude of 4000 meters, around 3 p.m., the leader fell from a height of regarding 30 meters.

The man was restrained by the taut rope and his companion immediately alerted the emergency services, which had to evolve in difficult weather conditions. The survivor was airlifted to Visp hospital in a state of shock and mild hypothermia.

An investigation was opened by the Public Ministry.
