A Dutch woman bequeaths five million euros to the Belgian city where she had settled

A Dutch woman bequeathed property worth nearly five million euros to the City of Bruges, the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Saturday.

The woman, whose name has not been released, died at the age of 80. His family was active in the industrial sector. After the sale of the family business 30 years ago, the Dutchwoman moved from the Netherlands to Switzerland. She moved to the center of Bruges eight years ago.

It seems that the octogenarian has designated the Flemish City as the beneficiary of his estate. This consists of a sum of 3.3 million euros in the bank, 945,000 euros in securities and other financial assets and a home worth 700,000 euros.

The Bruges Alderman for Finance, Mercedes Van Volcem, says to herself “Pleasantly surprised“, this kind of gesture being very rare. The inheritance rights in this case are reduced, the City being assimilated to a “good cause“.
