A Nigerien appointed president of the Ethics and Deontology Commission of CAMES – Aïr Info

The African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES) appointed, this Friday, April 28, 2023, Professor Habibou ABARCHI as President of its Ethics and Professional Conduct Commission. Professor Abarchi was elected by acclamation by his peers and will lead the Commission for a non-renewable term of four years.

CAMES is a pan-African institution whose mission is to harmonize higher education and research policies in 19 countries in West Africa, Central Africa and the Indian Ocean. The Ethics and Deontology Commission of CAMES ensures compliance with the rules of ethics and deontology applicable to members of CAMES bodies and staff, as well as to participants in its current and future programs.

The Commission is competent to examine cases of plagiarism or falsification of documents at the level of CAMES’ statutory programs, to rule on cases relating to breaches of the principles and values ​​defined by its Code of Ethics and Deontology, and to publicize the latter in all establishments affiliated with CAMES.

Habibou ABARCHI is Full Professor of CAMES Universities in Pediatric Surgery. He was also Rector of the Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey, President of the General Advisory Committee of CAMES and President of the Network for Excellence in Higher Education in West Africa (REESAO). His appointment reflects his high integrity, independence and in-depth knowledge of ethics and higher education issues in Africa and globally.
