Breaking News: Mexican Internet Series “Paper Love” Enchants Viewers with Unique LGBTQ+ Love Story

A captivating new Mexican internet series, “Paper Love,” has captured the hearts of viewers with its enchanting tale of romantic love. The series, which consists of five episodes, each lasting five minutes, is now available on YouTube and is quickly gaining traction for its unique storytelling and commitment to diversity.

Paper Love: A Magical Number and a Magical Story

“Paper Love” centers around Christian, a literature-loving young man who works in a bookstore. His peculiar obsession is imagining romantic relationships with the men who enter the store based on the books they choose. Directed by Edu Cortés, who previously debuted with the film “Tell Me from You,” the series stars José Salof in the leading role.

“There are contents that owe us to the millennial generations, such as this luminous love story. We wanted to open more to diversity, tell stories from another place and that could not only see the community, but also the allies. This is a series that can be seen with the family without problem,” says Salof.

The Making of Paper Love

The idea for “Paper Love” emerged a year ago when actor José Salof suggested to director Edu Cortés that they create something using a cell phone. Cortés saw an opportunity to create a more professional production with the help of the Faculty of Cinema, where he taught. The series was shot in five days last January and is now being released weekly on YouTube.

“The worst enemy of the filmmaker is time, the time it takes to get funds, film and release and that is very frustrating. Then it is to take advantage of these internet media and platforms to do things,” says Cortés.

Celebrating Love and Diversity

“Here (in history) the important thing is that at any age we continue to think of the ideal, romantic love, without the sexual,” adds Cortés. The series features a diverse cast including Mel Fuentes, Martín Saracho, Diego Valenco, Pablo Perroni, and Pepe Valdivieso.

The production cost approximately 200 thousand pesos, covering essential costs. Cortés hopes that the series will lead to a second season or even a feature film, depending on viewer reception.

Evergreen Insights into LGBTQ+ Representation in Media

The rise of “Paper Love” is part of a broader trend in media, where stories focusing on LGBTQ+ themes are gaining prominence. This increased representation is not only beneficial for the community but also helps to educate allies and promote understanding. As streaming platforms continue to grow, they offer a fertile ground for diverse storytelling, allowing creators to bypass traditional funding barriers and reach global audiences.

For those interested in creating their own content, Cortés offers valuable advice: “Take advantage of these internet media and platforms to do things.” Utilizing modern technology can democratize content creation, enabling more voices to be heard.

In a world where stories of love and diversity are increasingly important, “Paper Love” stands out as a beacon of hope and inspiration. Whether you’re a fan of romantic tales or simply looking for fresh content, this series is a must-watch.
