A protection vehicle assigned to Gustavo Petro’s brother was attacked

In the last few hours, a van belonging to the National Protection Unit (UNP) was hit by a blunt object while being driven in Bogotá. The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, July 3, on Circunvalar Avenue, near the La Paz neighborhood, on Carrera 1 and Calle 23.

According to preliminary information confirmed by the UNP itself, the vehicle that was shot at belongs to the security detail assigned to the Casa de Nariño. At the time of the attack, the Unit confirmed, the van was being driven by security personnel towards the municipality of Cajicá, where it was being awaited to complete a service.

Minutes following the incident, El Espectador confirmed with UNP that the hit van is assigned to the security detail of President Gustavo Petro’s brother, Fernando Petro. However, the head of state’s relative was not in the vehicle when the incident occurred. No injuries were reported following the shooting.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the motives behind the attack and whether the circumstances surrounding it might be related to the integrity of the president’s relative.
