LAFAYETTE, La. – The Arkansas State Red Wolves delivered a record-breaking performance from beyond the arc, sinking 19 three-pointers in a decisive 92-66 victory over Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at the Cajundome. The win improves Arkansas State’s record to 22-7 overall and 12-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Louisiana falls to 4-24 and 2-15 in conference action. This marks a new program record for most three-pointers made against a Division I opponent for the Red Wolves.
The Red Wolves’ offensive explosion was fueled by a blistering shooting display, connecting on 45 percent of their field goal attempts (31-of-69) and an impressive 40 percent from three-point range (19-of-48). Louisiana managed 41 percent shooting from the field (25-of-61) but couldn’t keep pace with Arkansas State’s relentless attack. Mia Tarver and D’Arrah Allen led the scoring charge for Arkansas State, each contributing 17 points, while Aniyah Ruddock added 12 and Zyion Shannon finished with 11.
Arkansas State initially struggled to find their rhythm, not taking the lead until well into the first quarter. Although, a strong 10-2 run over the final three minutes of the period gave them a 15-7 advantage after 10 minutes of play. The second quarter saw the Red Wolves truly ignite, knocking down eight three-pointers to extend their lead to as many as 21 points. Shannon was particularly effective during this stretch, scoring all 11 of her points in the quarter with three successful three-point shots and a pair of free throws. Tarver and Allen also contributed, each hitting two triples.
Red Wolves’ Second-Half Dominance
Arkansas State entered halftime with a commanding 44-25 lead. The third quarter saw both teams trade points, with the Red Wolves only adding two points to their advantage, leading 74-53 heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Arkansas State continued to apply pressure, embarking on an 11-0 run fueled by layups from Allyson Ferguson and Bella Weary. This surge solidified their control and ultimately led to the convincing victory.
The Red Wolves’ ability to consistently knock down shots from beyond the arc proved to be the key to their success. Their 19 three-pointers not only set a new program record but also created significant spacing for their offense, making it difficult for Louisiana to defend. The team’s 40 percent shooting from three-point range demonstrates their proficiency and confidence in outside shooting.
