Sydney: Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka, who was arrested in Australia in a sexual assault case, was acquitted by a Sydney court. The player was arrested during the Twenty20 World Cup held in Australia last year on a sexual assault complaint filed by a young woman. The complainant is a 29-year-old woman who met her through a dating app.

The woman complained that she was molested at a house in Rosebay, Sydney. The incident that led to the complaint took place on November 2. Later, the police arrested Gunathilake at the hotel where the team was staying in Sydney. The actor was charged with four charges, including sexual intercourse without consent.

Following his arrest, Gunathilaka was suspended from all formats of cricket by the Lankan Cricket Board. The court dismissed three charges once morest the star in May. The actor was acquitted in the case following the court dismissed the fourth charge. With this, the actor who has been in Australia for months can return to his native land.

The star, who joined the national team in 2015, has played eight Tests, 47 ODIs and 46 T20Is.
