Activists Block Engie Headquarters and Gas Power Plant in Brussels: Demanding an End to Fossil Fuels

2023-07-06 12:12:00

Since this morning, some 200 activists and trade unionists have blocked the headquarters of the Engie company in Brussels. Last night, 500 activists entered the future site of the company’s gas power plant, which is located in Flémalle. With several tents pitched, they intend to spend the weekend there.

We want to get out of fossil fuels. It is therefore a way of saying that we do not want new power stations“says an activist.”We are doing this in relation to the climate emergency. We think it’s a price we can still afford to pay if it helps fight this crisis.“, says an activist.

Not far from the site, the police are watching and blocking cars in order to search the chests, looking for anything that might be used to sabotage the current site. A priori, the will and watchword of the collective “Code Rouge” is non-violence. However, an individual initiative that might go wrong cannot be ruled out.
