Actor Gerard Depardieu intends to sell 250 works of art from his collection… That’s why!

French actor Gerard Depardieu will put up for sale at the end of September in Paris 250 works from his art collection dating back to the twentieth century, in a move aimed at “reducing a little burden” on him, according to what was announced by the person responsible for the sale.

The collection includes bronzes by Rodin, the artist whom Depardieu portrayed in a film alongside Isabelle Adjani, five works by Calder and a painting by Hans Hartung. It is expected that these pieces, which will be auctioned on September 26 and 27 in Drouot, will be sold for three to five million euros.

During the presentation of these pieces, David Nordman of the “Adair” auction house said that, at the age of 74, Depardieu, “has had surgeries and had accidents on his motorcycle. He is someone who has gone through a lot and needs to lighten up a bit.”

“In his house, there are no paintings hanging on the walls. He lives with them. There are piles of works piled up next to the walls,” he said.

Depardieu did not refrain from participating in cinematic works, but he faces accusations of sexual violence on the filming sites of eleven films or series shown between 2004 and 2022, directed by 13 women. He is originally accused of committing rape and sexual assault once morest an actress.

For these reasons, he was excluded in May from promoting the movie “Umami”, the latest work in which the French actor appears.

“I hope people will distinguish between the legal issues and the quality of this art collection,” Nordman said.
