Until recently, an electric car (often high-end) cost more, or even much more, than a classic internal combustion car. And for good reason, imagining and designing an electric car while familiarizing oneself with new technologies was particularly expensive. These prices then had to be passed on to the end customer.
However, in recent years, the automotive sector has worked hard to bring more affordable full electric models to the market, at less than €25,000. And it works. “Today, there are already full electric vehicles offered at a purchase price similar to that of internal combustion vehicles.“, underlines Romain Deneyer, coordinator of EV Belgium. “And the short-term expectation is that the mid-range electric car will be competitive with the internal combustion car between 2026 and 2028.”
