Agence France-Presse (AFP) has received nominations in two categories for the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) annual awards, the organization announced this week. The nominations recognize AFP’s work as a leading news agency and its production of high-quality video journalism.
AFP is again nominated for “News Agency of the Year,” an award it won in 2020. This year, it competes against three other agencies for the title. AFP’s video report, “Coastal Cities Face Their Mortality on the Climate ‘Frontline’,” has been shortlisted for “Single News Report,” recognizing it as one of the best news videos produced globally this year.
Notably, AFP is the sole news agency nominated in the “Single News Report” category, facing competition from CNN, BBC World News, ITV News, and Al Jazeera English. The AIB, established in 1993, describes its awards as a means of “highlighting the best in journalism and television, radio, audio and digital productions.”
The winners will be announced on November 12th and 15th, 2021. The AIB serves as a global alliance for media companies involved in international broadcasting, offering support and advocacy for its members worldwide. The organization provides intelligence, networking, lobbying, and promotional services to broadcasters and digital content providers, according to its website.
The AIB’s work encompasses key areas such as media freedom, cybersecurity, sustainability, and regulatory affairs. It maintains a comprehensive database of broadcasting and electronic media information from around the world and hosts an annual awards festival, known as the AIBs, celebrating excellence in factual content.
