AFPTV Hispanic Profiles & US Election Video on Yahoo! | AFP News Agency

Agence France-Presse (AFP) has significantly expanded its video news offerings in the Americas through a partnership with Yahoo!, delivering high-definition video content in Spanish and Portuguese to a broader audience. The initiative, spearheaded by AFPTV, AFP’s video news agency, focuses on in-depth profiles of Hispanic figures and coverage of key political and economic issues impacting the region.

The collaboration features a series of profiles, including those of Sergio Garcia and Maria Elena López, available on Yahoo! Noticias. These videos are part of a larger effort by AFPTV to provide localized content for North, Central, and South America, as well as Spain and Portugal. AFPTV currently produces approximately 170 videos daily from over 90 video journalism units worldwide, offering coverage in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Arabic, and Polish. The agency also provides “naturalsound” versions of videos, omitting voiceovers to accommodate diverse broadcasting needs.

AFP’s expansion into multi-language video production reflects a broader trend within the news agency industry to cater to increasingly diverse audiences and deliver content across multiple platforms. The agency’s historical commitment to comprehensive coverage – spanning conflicts, politics, sports, entertainment, health, science, and technology – is now being amplified through its video capabilities. AFP employs over 2,260 journalists globally, ensuring 24-hour coverage in six languages.

Beyond standard news reporting, AFPTV offers customized services to media clients, including special assignments and production assistance. This bespoke approach allows the agency to respond to specific client needs and deliver tailored video content. The agency’s initial foray into full HD coverage positioned it as an innovator in the field, and it continues to invest in technology and personnel to maintain its competitive edge.

The focus on Hispanic profiles within the Yahoo! partnership underscores the growing political and economic influence of the Hispanic community in the United States and Latin America. The profiles aim to provide nuanced portrayals of individuals shaping policy and driving economic development. AFPTV’s coverage extends beyond the United States, encompassing communities in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and throughout Latin America.

As of today, AFP has not released viewership figures for the Yahoo! partnership, and Yahoo! has not commented on the financial terms of the agreement. AFP continues to assess the impact of the collaboration and explore opportunities to expand its video offerings in the Americas.
