Agriculture delivered potato seeds to 1,113 producing families in Paraguarí

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock delivered certified and calibrated potato seeds to a total of 1,113 families in the department of Paraguarí. The beneficiaries are producers of the heading in the districts of La Colmena, Acahay, Caballero, Ybycuí, Maria Antonia, Carapeguá and Ybytymi.

The seeds delivered will cover an area of ​​230.5 hectares in the department of Paraguarí, where national potato production is concentrated.

Potato cultivation is essential for the regional economy of Paraguarí. This tuber not only represents a source of food, but also an economic engine that produces important income for local producers and generates employment in the region.

It also contributes significantly to agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and contributes to the food security of farmers, the MAG points out.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is working to zone production and thus extend the national supply from other departments, such as Amambay, where there are conditions for the production of this item.

Currently, domestic production meets the demand for potatoes for domestic consumption for approximately 50 days, while the rest of the demand is met by importing the product.
