When Claude encountered roadblocks, the attackers turned to OpenAI’s ChatGPT for data analysis and to identify the necessary credentials to navigate the compromised systems undetected. Anthropic, while not directly commenting on the Mexican breach, told Bloomberg it had banned the involved accounts and disrupted their activity.

The U.S. Government is also taking steps to address the potential misuse of AI. Recently, the Pentagon directed federal agencies to phase out Claude after Anthropic refused to allow its AI to be used for mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has consistently warned that the AI systems being developed are unpredictable and difficult to control, stating that “The AI systems of today are nowhere near reliable enough to make fully autonomous weapons,” according to VentureBeat.
