Air taxis will be part of public transport in Dubai by 2026

Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority says that air taxis will be a part of public transport in the emirate by 2026. The American company Jobi Aviation is responsible for the manufacturing of the air taxi. Taxis are designed to meet the safety standards of the US Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates air traffic. Air taxis will run on electricity.

Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the document for the establishment of flying taxi stations and vertiports in a ceremony held before the World Government Summit. Dubai will become the first city in the world to have a network of taxis.

The service will be provided by taxis modeled following a small plane traveling at a speed of 300 kmph. Apart from the pilot, four passengers can ride in the taxi. The project will be implemented in the first phase focusing on Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina areas near Dubai Airport.
