PARIS, June 18 (Archyde.com) – Airbus AIR.PA is in advanced talks to secure a major new order from Mexican low-cost airline Viva Aerobus, industry sources said on Sunday.

The number of single-aisle aircraft mentioned for this contract is in the triple digits, or more than 100, the sources said, declining to give further details.

Airbus declined a request for comment.

A spokesman for Viva Aerobus said the company had signed “no new orders” with any aircraft manufacturer. “We currently have an order in progress with Airbus for A321neos with deliveries until 2027,” the spokesperson noted.

Viva Aerobus is one of the “targets” that Airbus and Boeing BA.N are vying for to conquer markets. The airline turned away from the American aircraft manufacturer in 2013 to favor the European aircraft manufacturer.

According to the sources, an agreement between Airbus and Viva Aerobus is not yet guaranteed, pending further discussions.
