Akira Schmid was recalled to the NHL by the New Jersey Devils due to the injury of starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek. The Bernese has already played 15 matches this season with the Devils.
The 23-year-old from Emmental was demoted to the AHL at the end of December. He played 12 matches with the Utica Comets, the farm club from New Jersey.
