The Spaniard managed to settle the confrontation with the 91st-ranked player in the world 6-0, 6-1, 7-5 to set up a meeting with American Francis Tiafoe in the next round.
Italian Yannick Sener, ranked 13th in the world, reached the same round, defeating American Brandon Nakashima 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.
