Breaking News: Alain Brock Reflects on His Iconic Moment at KAS Eupen
In an exclusive interview, former KAS Eupen player and youth coach Alain Brock shares his most cherished memory from his time at the club. Brock’s debut in the first team, which coincided with becoming an uncle, remains an unforgettable experience for the 55-year veteran of the club.
From Childhood to the Pitch
Brock’s love for football ignited at the tender age of three, when he began attending AS Eupen matches with his father. His journey with the club spanned 21 years, from youth teams to the reserves, culminating in a memorable 5-minute appearance in the first team on March 14, 1993.
“It was during a crucial promotion match in Prayon,” Brock recalls. “Coach Frank Neumann brought me on just five minutes before the end. It was a surreal moment, especially with the birth of my niece Marie happening just hours later.”
Commitment Beyond the Pitch
Brock’s dedication to KAS Eupen extended far beyond his playing days. After retiring, he took on roles within the youth department, eventually becoming the sports manager from 2000 to 2004. His efforts helped shape the careers of future talents like Christian Brüls, who joined the club at 14 and made his first-team debut at 17.
“We trained 2 to 3 times a week back then,” Brock explains. “Even with fewer resources, we managed to nurture talent. Today, the infrastructure and professionalism have significantly improved.”
The Impact of KAS Eupen on Eupen and Beyond
As the director of Eupen’s marketing council and tourism info, Brock continues to see the club’s influence firsthand. “KAS Eupen is more than just a football team; it’s an ambassador for the city and region,” he says. “The media coverage is invaluable for promoting Eupen.”
The club’s journey over the decades has seen various challenges and triumphs, with key figures like Gerd Noël, Gerd Kalscheuer, and Antonio Imborgia playing pivotal roles. The professionalization in 2012 by the Aspire Zone Foundation ensured the club’s sustainability and growth.
Looking Ahead
Brock’s hope for the future is clear: “I dream of seeing KAS Eupen back in the D1 league. The club has come a long way, and I believe it has the potential to achieve even more.”
As the club continues to evolve, Brock’s legacy remains an integral part of its history, a testament to the enduring impact of dedication and passion.
