Tobar, Abouzeid, Benito and Segarra have taken silver, while Tejeda has achieved bronze in doubles
The Aranalde sports center hosted the Senior Spanish Badminton Championship last weekend. 257 athletes competed for three days in the Vitoria venue in the framework of one of the top events of the circuit, valid for the World Championship next November. In the event, the competitors from Alava managed to hang up to five medals.
In total, four silver and one bronze metals, divided into various age and test categories. In B1, aged 40 to 45, Héctor Tovar, Dina Abouzeid and Begoña Benito took the silver. She did the first in the men’s doubles and the third in the women’s, while Abouzeid, winner last year at Nacional de Murcia, was second in the women’s singles.
In category C1, which includes competitors between the ages of 50 and 55, Esther Segarra won silver in the women’s doubles. In addition, in category C2 -from 55 to 60 years old- Alfonso Tejeda took the bronze in men’s doubles. In the tournament there were also eleven participants over 70 years old. The oldest will turn 80 next year.
