Alberto Fernández urged Maduro to accept defeat if the opposition wins

Former Argentine President Alberto Fernández (2019-2023) announced on Tuesday that he will travel to Venezuela to act as an international observer in the elections to be held on July 28 and urged Nicolás Maduro to accept defeat in the event of an unfavorable result.

In an interview on Argentine radio station Radio con Vos, Fernández said that he will travel to Venezuela on Wednesday to do “what they asked me to do, which is to be an observer in an election and see that everything works well.”

“I am leaving so that I can speak with the opposition and hear their concerns first, to see if there are any concerns that I can help correct. I want to correct them, because what I want is for there to be a transparent election,” Fernandez added.

Regarding the possibility of Maduro losing the elections, he said that “if he is defeated, what he has to do is accept it. As Lula said, the one who wins, wins, and the one who loses, loses. Period, it’s over, that’s democracy.”

He also stressed that “what Venezuela needs is to recover its democratic coexistence and allow those who are wandering around the world, because they left their country for whatever reason, to return.”
