The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall notice for a brand of cheese sold in Aldi due to fears of listeria contamination.
It comes after the discovery of traces of the bacteria in a batch of Ardagh Lighter Grated Mild Red & Mozzarella cheese.
The implicated cheese has batch code: Best before date: 30/11/2025 (A, B, C and D).
The pack size is 200g and the approval number is IE 1099 EC
The authority described symptoms of infection by Listeria monocytogenes as being similar to flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to the infection, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
