2024-10-16 09:50:00

As part of its cosmetovigilance missions, ANSES received four reports of acute kidney failure following the application of so-called “Brazilian smoothing” products containing glyoxylic acid. As a precautionary measure, ANSES, the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF) and the General Directorate for Health (DGS) are informing professionals in hairdressing salons and product retailers cosmetics as well as users of the possibility of occurrence of acute renal failure linked to the application of straightening products containing glyoxylic acid. Pending the conclusions of the expertise undertaken by Anses, the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF) and the General Directorate for Health (DGS) recommend against using the product.
