The organizing association, the AFM-Téléthon, hopes to exceed the 90.8 million euros collected in 2022. Donations, still possible until this Saturday evening, December 9, make it possible to finance research into therapies for diseases rare.

The 37th edition of the Telethon, which began Friday evening and ends in the middle of the night from this Saturday to Sunday, has already recorded nearly 13 million euros in donations this Saturday, December 9 by mid-morning, according to the AFM association. -Telethon.

The counter showed 12.796 million euros at 10 a.m. this Saturday, the organizers said in a press release.

Do better than in 2022 despite inflation

AFM-Téléthon, which brings together patients and parents of patients, intends to exceed the figure for the 2022 edition, which with 90.8 million euros – best result since 2016 – returned to full capacity following two years of the Covid pandemic.

In addition to field collections, pledges of donations by telephone (3637), by internet (téléthon.fr), a gaming marathon and a raffle are on the menu.

Exceeding the amount collected last year will be difficult, due to the economic context of inflation and a tight budget for many families.

58 million euros for research in 2022

The AFM (French Association once morest Myopathies) has dedicated some 58 million euros in 2022 to the research and development of new therapies. The Telethon product particularly targets rare diseases, 95% of which remain without treatment or even diagnosis.

Beyond the research issues, the Telethon remains a unique event. It mobilizes more than 200,000 volunteers and is available in more than 10,000 municipalities.

Many cities will be mobilized, with various events (sport, music, etc.) and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the common themes, including the Dance of the Games by Mourad Merzouki.
