The community relays of the Alunguli health zone in Kindu (Maniema) alerted, on Saturday, September 2, to cases of measles in children under 5 in the region.

According to the secretary of the health committee of the health area of Kam 2, Victor Maluba Songe, at least 20 cases of measles have been recorded in the Kasongo animation cell.

“We have noticed that many children, particularly in the Kasongo animation cell, are affected by measles,” he warned.

Mr. Songe is worried regarding the fact that this disease will reappear while the nurses are on strike.

“Parents find it difficult to treat their children, some are even pushed to resort to traditional treatment which also causes problems,” he said.

He launched an SOS for rapid care of the sick in order to break the chain of contamination. “We fear this might happen in the coming days as there is a lack of quality care,” he said.
