The new policy extension allows granular control over agent actions – for example, preventing a customer service agent from authorizing high-value returns without human oversight. An evaluation suite provides continuous monitoring and performance assessment, helping to prevent unintended consequences from model upgrades.

Furthermore, Amazon is expanding its marketplace of pre-baked agents, offering ready-to-deploy solutions for tasks like development automation and cybersecurity. While Garman emphasized a “pick and choose” approach to services, the convenience of these pre-built agents further encourages platform lock-in. These “shake-n-bake” AI assistants, while efficient, aren’t easily portable.

The tension between customization and control will define the next phase of enterprise AI adoption. Amazon’s strategy leans heavily towards control, offering a curated experience that prioritizes ease of use and reliability – at the expense of vendor independence. This approach will likely appeal to organizations lacking the internal expertise or resources to manage complex AI infrastructure.
