America agrees to a Chinese airline’s request to divert incoming flights to Shanghai from New York

WASHINGTON (Archyde.com) – The U.S. Department of Transportation on Friday approved a request by China Eastern Airlines (China Eastern Airlines) to allow it to extend the rerouting of flights from New York to Shanghai to land at an alternative Chinese airport until May 31, due to COVID-19 measures.

The ministry had earlier approved the Chinese airline’s request to transfer incoming flights to Shanghai from New York, which takes place twice a week, to land at China’s Fuzhou Changle International Airport in Fujian Province until the end of April.

The Chinese airline said in a request to the US government that “due to the measures to control the Corona virus pandemic in the Shanghai region”, those responsible for Chinese air traffic were ordered “to divert passenger flights to Shanghai from the United States to certain alternative airports in China.”
