After this Monday night the Office of the Presidency reported that the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador will travel this weekend to Badiraguato, Sinaloa, hometown of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, former leader of the Pacific Cartel, to supervise the construction of the Badiraguato-Guadalupe y Calvo highway, this afternoon it was reported that the event will be “private”.
According to sources from the Presidency, there will be no access to the press and even “people from the Center for the Production of Informative and Special Programs (Cepropie) will not be present, nor will photographers of President López Obrador.”
The Office of the President of the Republic did not disclose the reasons why the event was closed.
With this visit, they will add three occasions in which López Obrador he goes to Badiraguato, municipality located in the Golden triangle, an area known for growing marijuana and poppies.
Last year, on March 29, 2020, while supervising this same highway, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador greeted “El Chapo’s” mother by the hand, Maria Consuelo Loera Pérez.
“I greet you, do not get off, do not get off, I already received your letter,” said the President at that time when greeting the mother of the Mexican drug trafficker, who was inside a truck.
During the brief meeting, María Consuelo Loera Pérez gave him a letter requesting his intervention so that she could travel to the United States and see her son. After the greeting, the video went viral on social networks.
He emphasized that that Sunday, March 29, was the birthday of Ovidio Guzman Lopez, son of “Chapo”. In October 2019, the Government failed in its attempt to stop him in an operation in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
A day later, in his press conference, President López Obrador justified the greeting to the mother of “El Chapo” because he said, she was a 92-year-old woman who deserved his respect and that if he shook hands with white-collar criminals “How can I not give it to a lady.”
“She is a 92-year-old lady and I already said, the fatal plague is corruption, not an older adult who deserves all my respect, regardless of who her son is.
“They told me she was there, she wanted to say hello, I got out of the truck and greeted her. If I shake hands with white-collar criminals, how could I not give it to a lady!” He declared.
For Saturday, July 31, President López Obrador is expected to lead the supervision of the San Ignacio-Tayoltita highway, in San Ignacio, Sinaloa.
On Sunday August 1, the day of the popular consultation to prosecute the former presidents, in Nayarit, President López Obrador will lead the supervision of the La Yesca and Las Varas-Compostela federal highways.
