Anatol Friedl: Rising Star in Youth Cycling and Mountain Biking

Anatol Friedl is a focused young man and he loves to assert himself on the bike. He underlined his high standards with two silver medals at the Mountain Bike U17 European Championships and also had his “definitely best season” on the road. At the international youth cycling tour in Eastern Styria, he was the best Austrian in seventh place overall and finished the queen stage in fifth place. “For me, mountain biking and road racing go well together and as long as it lasts, I want to do both,” says the man from Graz.

In the future, however, he will be seen more on the road, because he made the jump to the Auto Eder team, the U19 talent factory of World Tour Team Bora hansgrohe, through selection at the Red Bull Juniors. “My father registered me there and I was a bit surprised that I managed to do it.” Friedl received the coveted can-shaped helmet from Bora professional Anton “Toni” Palzer. In the future he will compete in international UCI races with the German racing team, but he still has permission from the team management for off-road attacks. “Driving in the field is a change for me with all the positional battles.”

Even if Friedl doesn’t emulate any role model, Thomas Pidcock is a good fit for him. The British cyclist from Team Ineos won gold at the Tokyo Olympic mountain bike race and also won the queen stage of the Tour de France in 2022. “There are some fascinating drivers, but I drive because it suits me.”
