Salles-la-Source,France – The Museum of Traditional Arts and Crafts in Salles-la-Source will cease operations on Sunday,November 2nd.This closure will directly affect the planetarium, a fixture within the museum for the last 28 years.

The planetarium, operated by the astronomy association “Andromède 4A” of Onet-le-Château under an agreement with the departmental council, has served schools, leisure groups, and the wider community. To mark the end of an era, Andromède 4A is hosting three final public planetarium sessions.

Last Chance to Explore the Cosmos

These farewell sessions will be held on Sunday, October 26th, at 3 P.M., 4 P.M., and 5 P.M. Admission is priced at €4. Visitors will have the prospect to experience a simulated night sky, complete with stars, constellations, planets, galaxies, and nebulae.

A complex computer system and video projector work in tandem to recreate the celestial sphere, allowing viewers to journey through space and time. This provides a unique and educational experience for all ages.

The Enduring Appeal of Planetariums

Planetariums offer a unique immersive experience that cannot be easily replicated. Unlike observing the night sky with the naked eye or through a telescope, planetariums provide a controlled environment free from light pollution and atmospheric interference. This allows for a clearer, more detailed view of the cosmos.

Moreover, planetariums can simulate celestial events that occur over long periods of time, such as the movement of planets, the evolution of stars, and the formation of galaxies. This ability to visualize the universe on different timescales makes planetariums invaluable tools for education and scientific research.
