After the rain of the previous days, the weather finally turned nice on this last weekend in June, as if to welcome the arrival of the twelve “First Wine Families”, gathered for their annual meeting. We are in the middle of nature regarding forty kilometers from Valladolid, in the heart of the great vineyards of Ribera del Duero, in Vega Sicilia, at Pablo Alvarez, the current president of the PFV. The welcome cocktail takes place in the bodega’s exceptional Japanese garden. All the guests know each other, greet each other, kiss each other, some have come with their children.

“We are always extremely happy to meet once more”says Philippe Sereys de Rothschild (Mouton-Rothschild). “It’s a bit like a cousinhood, the new generations can create bonds of friendship”believes Matthieu Perrin (Beaucastel). “It’s an appointment blocked in our diaries, a moment of work and pleasure, essential to share and discuss our profession”, explains Véronique Boss-Drouhin, the future president. Pablo Alvarez recalls in his welcome speech the crucial importance of family values in these troubled times.
