British boxing star Anthony Joshua has been released from Lagoon Hospital in Lagos following a fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that claimed the lives of two close associates. The former world heavyweight champion was treated for minor injuries and will recover at home, according too authorities.

In a statement posted on X, the Lagos and Ogun state governments said Joshua left the hospital late this afternoon. They said he remained emotionally affected by the loss of his two companions, Sina Ghami, his strength coach, and Latif Ayodele, his trainer, who died when their vehicle struck a stationary truck earlier this week.

Joshua, who recently defeated Jake Paul in a Netflix-backed bout, was in Nigeria, his parents’ homeland, when the crash occurred. He had been receiving care at Lagoon Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the incident.

Investigations Under Way

Officials said inquiries are ongoing. After his discharge, Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home to pay respects as the bodies were prepared for repatriation. The driver of the vehicle has also been discharged from hospital and is being questioned by police.

Preliminary findings from the Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency indicate the car was traveling at excessive speed and had a tyre burst before the crash. A senior police officer cited by a national newspaper suggested the driver coudl face reckless-driving charges, though details were not released.
