Anti-NGO law would seek to eliminate “annoying” organizations

The new bill would seek to eliminate those organizations that reveal alleged irregularities committed by the administration of Nicolás Maduro. The director of the organization Acceso a la Justicia, said that the most affected are the beneficiaries of these institutions.

In an interview with the Versión Final website, Ali Daniels explained the law. According to him, the financing of these institutions is not the underlying problem, “what is behind this is that the Human Rights organizations are the ones saying things that the Government does not like.”

Since January 2023, the National Assembly (AN) has been discussing a bill to regulate Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), promoted mainly by the pro-government deputy Diosdado Cabello, who has claimed that they receive funding from abroad to destabilize the nation.

The legislative body was to approve the bill on Tuesday in its second reading, but the decision was postponed until next week. The bill, entitled “Bill on the Supervision, Regulation, Action and Financing of NGOs and Related Organizations” has generated controversy due to the possible closure of associations.
